In 2023, Portugal received over €2.1 billion in new financial commitments from the European Investment Bank Group (EIB Group), marking a more than 25% increase from the previous year. This substantial investment, representing 0.8% of Portuguese GDP, positioned Portugal among the top seven recipients of EIB support relative to GDP. Approximately half of this funding was allocated to small businesses and mid-caps, bolstering their role as key drivers of economic growth, job creation, and sustainable development. Cohesion financing accounted for more than 66% of the EIB Group's investment in Portugal, with significant contributions toward sustainable energy, natural resources, digital technologies, innovation, and regional development.
