The coalition Government is significantly increasing education spending by $2.93 billion over the next four years to enhance student outcomes, as announced by Education Minister Erica Stanford. This investment includes funding for new classrooms, additional teacher support, and early childhood education. It also covers previously announced initiatives such as structured literacy, more teachers, the school lunches program, charter schools, and period products in schools. The total investment in schools and early childhood education will rise by 3.6 percent in the coming year to $19.1 billion, with $429 million in savings redirected to higher priority areas within education.
Key investments in the Budget include $1.48 billion for education property, $478 million for the Healthy School Lunches Programme, and substantial funds for school equity, early childhood education subsidies, digital services, charter schools, structured literacy, teacher supply, ESOL support, and other initiatives. This comprehensive funding aims to ensure that children can learn in safe, well-maintained schools, with improved learning environments and support for teachers. The Government's commitment to improving student achievement is reflected in these investments, which focus on a knowledge-rich curriculum, better reading and math outcomes, consistent student progress monitoring, enhanced teacher training, and greater use of data.
